Family Medicine Academy
Family Medicine Academy aims to implement the curriculum of the Saudi Board Certificate in Family Medicine
approved by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties “SCFHS” with the highest criteria, in order to qualify
national cadres and meet the great need in such vital specialty. The Academy also works on accrediting health
centers to become high-quality training centers.
The Academy seeks to gradually increase the number of those accepted to graduate qualified physicians to
serve primary healthcare centers and contribute to the progress in servicing health transformation to support
the Kingdom’s vision 2030 by empowering primary healthcare centers, which are one of the most important pillars
in providing health services globally.
The role of family medicine physicians is an essential element in providing many preventive and curative
services and enhancing the health of the individual and society, which relieves patients from the hardship of
moving to hospitals for treatment and allow hospitals to focus on treating the pathological conditions that
require treatment.
According to 2022 statistics, 102 physicians graduated with the Saudi Board of Family Medicine. Some courses
and workshops were held for trainers and trainees, such as (simulation and clinical skills course, the
preparatory course for fellowship exam in cooperation with the Saudi Society of Family and Community Medicine
“SSFCM”, and development courses for trainers of basic and advanced life support courses). The number of
resident physicians in the program has reached (181), while there are (170) interns, (62) medical students who
have been trained, and (23) research published by trainees.
